FAQs

What kind of Appliance is it?

This appliance is a System boiler. This means it is pressurised and it needs a cylinder to store hot water. Some system components like the expansion vessel, pump and PRV are built into the boiler so there is no need for a tank in the loft.

When was the boiler manufactured?

This boiler was first manufactured in 2007 and is not currently in production. It is a Natural Gas, LPG, Condensing and wall mounted boiler.

Is there a clock or roomstat available?

The Glow-worm Ultracom SXI is compatible with a broad range of third-party roomstats and clocks. It is also compatible with our advanced eBUS connected controls such as the MiGo. For more information on roomstats you can contact an approved installer by clicking here

How do I use the controls?

I need to top up my water pressure?

The boiler should read 1 - 1.5 bar of pressure when the central heating is cold. If this drops below too low, for example 0.5, this normally means water has been lost from the Central heating heating system and the filling loop is used to replace this water. When the central heating is on, the pressure may increase on the boiler, however the pressure generally must not increase by more than 1 bar. If this is the case it could indicate an internal component of the boiler called an Expansion Vessel may need pressurising. A service engineer will need to be contacted in this case.

This appliance doesn't come with an integrated filling loop. There should be an external filling loop fitted to the system by your original installer. This will either be located below or around the boiler area or in the cylinder cupboard. Although there are many variations on what a filling loop will look like they will all carry out the same function so will look broadly similar. Two examples of external loops will look like the pictures below and connect across two separate pipes:

This type of filling loop has two taps on it.  You would open one fully then slowly open the other until you start to hear water passing through.  Once you hear water passing through keep an eye on the boiler's gauge, pressure reading or external pressure gauge and close the valve when it reaches 1 - 1.5 bar.

This type of filling loop only has one tap on it:

With this type you would slowly open the tap until you start to hear water passing through. Once you hear water passing through keep an eye on the boiler's gauge, pressure reading or external pressure gauge and close the valve when it reaches 1 - 1.5 bar.

My boiler has a fault and I need some help?

Your boiler should work reliably for a number of years if it is serviced annually, however occasionally  faults can occur. In a lot of cases faults can be temporary and if the boiler is reset it will start working again. We have created a special troubleshooting guide which you can access by clicking here which may help you resolve the issue. If you continue to experience problems please click here for contact information.
